Ronald K. Ragen, a lawyer with Davis Wright Tremaine since 1961, has been named Chair of the Board of Trustees of Lewis & Clark College. His areas of emphasis include international business, municipal finance, securities, real estate, and corporate law. In addition to a general corporate practice, he represents clients from throughout Asia, as well as West Coast based businesses involved in transactions with Pacific Rim countries. He succeeds current Chair Judith Johansen and begins his appointment in June.

Mark Tratos JD ’79, managing shareholder of the Las Vegas office of the International Law Firm of Greenberg Traurig, will serve as first vice chair and serves on the Board of Visitors at the law school; Chris Jay ’72, first vice president in the Anchorage, Alaska office of Merrill Lynch & Co, is now second vice chair; and Stephanie Fowler M.A ’97, a psychotherapist and counselor at William Temple House, is third vice chair and represents the graduate school.

New board members include Patrick Markham, Stephen Roth, and Eric Parsons. Trustees serve three-year terms, which are renewable.

Patrick Markham ’72 is the chief executive officer of Brook Communications in Roseburg.

Stephen Roth co-founded three real estate investment companies—Secured Capital Corporation, Secured Capital Japan, and Stam Europe—and currently serves as a director or advisor to each of these companies.

Eric Parsons ’70 is the chairman, president and chief executive officer of the StanCorp Financial Group Standard Insurance Company in Portland.

The Board also honored three retiring faculty members with emeriti status: Dinah Dodds, Professor of German, Roger B. Nelsen Professor of Mathematical Sciences, and Richard L. Peck Professor of International Affairs.
