Summary:

Racial bias and other forms of discrimination on the part of healthcare workers can cause serious harm for patients. Yet implicit and subconscious bias are widespread, presenting a challenge for the Oregon Medical Board’s effort to end discrimination in healthcare.  

“Our brains engage in unknowing acts of discriminatory decision making,” explains Lewis & Clark Professor Keith Cunningham-Parmeter, an expert in discrimination and bias in American law. “So what is the law supposed to do about these unintentional acts that lead to horrible outcomes?”
