Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics Ethan Siegel has a down-to-earth discussion about theoretical astrophysics in this Portland Tribune profile.

An expert at making difficult scientific material engaging and approachable, Siegel recently received an international honor for his work. His blog, “Starts With a Bang,” earned the people’s choice award and the top prize from judges in a worldwide contest hosted by physics.org.

In a recent guest post on the popular science and science fiction blog io9.com, Siegel explains how dark matter influences the distribution of galaxies in the universe—in other words, how we got to where we are in the universe.

Siegel’s earlier blog posts have included topics such as “Some Matter is Strange, but That’s Okay” and “How Afraid of Asteroids Should You Be?”
