The numbers are in, and for the fifth year in a row, Lewis & Clark has been named one of the top producers of Fulbright Award winners in the country, according to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. With ten Fulbright scholars in 2016–17, Lewis & Clark is in the top ten liberal arts college producers of Fulbrights in the nation, and the only top producer in Oregon.
“I proudly congratulate all our talented and ambitious Fulbright scholars,” said Lewis & Clark Interim President David Ellis. “Our students have a hunger to engage in and understand the world around them, and our tradition of being a Fulbright top producer both underscores and strengthens those pursuits.”
Today’s Chronicle of Higher Education lists the colleges and universities with the highest number of students/alumni and current faculty members who received Fulbright grants for the 2016–17 academic year. This year and over the last dozen years, Lewis & Clark students and alumni have earned more Fulbright U.S. honors than those from any other college or university in Oregon.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Program provides students, faculty, and professionals with grants for graduate study, research, or teaching in countries all around the world. The Fulbright Program is the government’s flagship international educational exchange program and provides grants to study, teach English, and conduct research in over 140 countries.
