Liberal arts institutions play a crucial role in nurturing well-rounded individuals, equipping them with diverse skills and critical thinking abilities to prepare them for our rapidly changing world.

So says Aaron Forbort BA ’02, an Alumni Board member from Minneapolis, who majored in international affairs and made an end-of-year gift to L&C. End of year gifts like Aaron’s are critical for student scholarships/financial aid, overseas and outdoor programs, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and other areas of campus in need of support through our Annual Fund.

At the end of 2024, Lewis & Clark was nearly halfway to its $2 million annual fund goal for the undergraduate school!

“As someone who has cherished the transformative power of higher education, especially the unique value that liberal arts colleges like Lewis & Clark bring, I am always eager to contribute to their continued success,” said Aaron. “Supporting Lewis & Clark financially means investing in a future where students are empowered to make meaningful impacts in their communities and beyond, ensuring that the rich legacy of academic excellence and innovative thinking at L&C is not only preserved, but also enhanced for generations to come.

“It is an honor to be part of such an inspiring journey, and to contribute to the bright futures of these remarkable students.”

Alumnus Zach Holz BA ’12, and wife, Joss Unzicker BA `13, also made a year-end gift to L&C. Zach returns to campus annually as an invited guest lecturer in Professor Andrew Bernstein’s environmental history class.

“My annual return to campus reminds me of the good, deep work that this place nourishes: sustained connection with skilled teachers, wide engagement with the material of the liberal arts, and communal growth within the shared circle of each other,” said Zach. “I was inspired to give this year for the first time as an alum because of what I’ve witnessed from the other side of the lecture room: students in the crucible of change who are exploring what the world is calling them to become.

“I’m proud to support the work of my alma mater.”

Sophomore Zahra Diallo BA `27, a philosophy major on the cheer and step team and a student peer mentor, is one promising student benefiting from alumni gifts.

“I chose to attend Lewis & Clark College because of the affordability and commitment to academic success. The school made it possible for me to attend financially; otherwise, I would not have been able to have such a fruitful college experience.”

Liberal arts colleges foster an environment where creativity, collaboration, and curiosity are celebrated, says Forbort, allowing students to explore a wide array of disciplines and discover their passions.
