Q&A with Albert Bae, Assistant Professor of Physics
Albert Bae’s research includes electromagnetism, quantum physics, and mechanics.
When and how did you develop an interest in your field?
My interest in biological physics started when my graduate school advisors told me about the work they were doing with the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum. I learned that there are many rich open questions about how these cells navigate through their environment to find food, and how when nutrients become sparse, they signal one another to come together in an effort to survive the harsh environment. I was fascinated at how we can use physics tools to investigate and describe some of these complex behaviors.
What excites you most about joining the L&C community?
I enjoy the camaraderie–the sense that we are all in this together. The enthusiasm students have for learning something new excites me.
What kind of hobbies or special activities do you enjoy outside of work?
I enjoy a game of pocket billiards, a nice walk through nature, listening to music.
