Lewis & Clark accounts will no longer have access to Google Photos starting July 1, 2022

Google Photos will be turned off for all Lewis & Clark accounts on July 1, 2022. The Google Photos application is not a core service covered by the Google for Education Workspace agreement with schools. In addition, Google Photos application poses a storage liability with the end of free unlimited storage for schools.

What this means for end users:

  • End users will still be able to upload photos to Google Drive, Google Classroom, and Google Slides
  • End users will not be able to use their Google Photos app on their phones with their lclark.edu accounts or access photos.google.com with their lclark.edu account. End users will have to find a new place to manage their photos.
  • Those who use Google Photos for personal photos through their lclark.edu accounts will need to transfer ownership of these photos to a personal account using one of the following methods:
  • Institutional photos in individual or departmental Photos accounts will need to be moved to an external drive, or (after curation) to the regular Drive folder.
