Visiting Lewis & Clark is the best way to get to know us. Our three campuses—undergraduate, graduate, and law—are nestled in a forest just six miles from downtown Portland, and we have a free shuttle that will take you there.

Take a Campus Tour
Our undergraduate campus spans a ravine and is surrounded by trees, giving you ample space to explore and connect with nature. Our law school is located next door to Tryon Creek State Park, which is where you’ll find members of our community hiking the 13 miles of stunning nature trails. And our graduate school has an expansive green lawn that serves as a backyard, commonly listed as our students’ favorite place on campus. It’s also where our bee garden is housed!

Self-Guided Tour
Self-guided tours are available almost every day of the year, giving you added flexibility. Complete this brief form to receive a digital self-guided tour map. Plan to spend about an hour touring our beautiful campus. You’re welcome to go inside buildings that are open and to ask questions of the students, faculty, and staff you meet along the way. Please don’t disturb any classes that are in session, but otherwise make yourself at home.

Lewis & Clark is located in the lush hills of South Portland, the city’s “sixth quadrant.” But our beautiful campuses aren’t the entire story—our location offers something that most other schools do not: an ideal setting in a vibrant, progressive city with endless networking, entertainment, and cultural resources.

The benefits and beauty of the Pacific Northwest are right outside our door. This area contains some of the most spectacular and well-maintained scenic areas in the United States.

Portland is nationally renowned for its food scene, which includes options for almost every food preference and dietary need. We were even given the title of best pizza in the country from Modernist Pizza!
Things to Do
It’s impossible to provide an exhaustive list of things to do and see in a city as vibrant and diverse as Portland. We can promise you this, though: you won’t lack for great opportunities to have fun.
The food scene in Portland is one of my favorite things about living here. I enjoy going out to eat with friends and trying different food cuisines in the area.
The Pio Express shuttle is great to escape campus and explore Portland if you don’t have a car!
I love how close some nice hiking spots are in Portland. You can find some fun nature spots and then go get a great cup of coffee after.

We’re just a bit north of the halfway point between the North Pole and the Equator, at roughly the same latitude as Lyon (France), Milan (Italy), and Sapporo (Japan).
We’re also at the same latitude as Burlington, Vermont, and Minneapolis, Minnesota (but without the subzero temperatures.)

Applications for 2025-26 Criminal Defense Practicum
The Criminal Defense Practicum is year-long experiential course for 2L and 3L students. It is a partnership between Lewis and Clark and Metropolitan Public Defender designed to offer intensive training and in-court experience to Lewis and Clark students interested in public defense work. Students accepted into the Practicum will become Certified Law Students and will have the opportunity to handle their own misdemeanor cases under the close supervision of an experienced attorney. Students will enjoy a significant amount of in-court experience, up to and including jury trials. Students will learn the ins and outs of public defense practice and contribute to reducing the number of unrepresented Oregonians charged with misdemeanor crimes. Students will receive three weeks of intensive training at the beginning of the academic year, after which students will work in-office approximately 20 hours per week. Students will receive ongoing training on the rules of evidence, ethics, and substantive criminal practice throughout the course of the practicum. Placements may be at the Multnomah County (Portland) or Washington County (Hillsboro) offices.
The Practicum is open to 2L and 3L students in good academic standing. Preference will be given to 3Ls who have taken and passed Evidence and Professional Responsibility courses (or, in lieu of Professional Responsibility, have taken and passed the MPRE). Students may earn up to 6 credits per semester for participation in the Practicum.
Applicants should be aware that the law school is currently awaiting confirmation of the Practicum’s funding for 2025-26 from the Oregon Legislature. While we feel confident that the program will receive ongoing funding, we will not be able to confirm this until after the application period closes. Students will be informed whether the Practicum has officially been funded before course registration begins for other classes for Fall semester.
Interested students should send a Resume, Cover Letter, and writing sample to Rachel Maremont at rmaremont@mpdlaw.com by 9:00 PM on Sunday, May 4th. Interviews will be held for selected students the week of May 19th.
