Pull-Up Pamplin Challenge

Can you do 20 pull-ups? In a suit and tie? At age 69? Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. ’64, ’65, ’66 can–and he wondered if other members of the Lewis & Clark community could as well.
Pamplin, who is a fitness promoter, philanthropist, life trustee, and longtime benefactor of Lewis & Clark, challenged members of the campus community to show their stuff at the pull-up bar. Over the course of a week in mid-November, roughly 250 students, alumni, faculty, and staff flexed their collective muscle. In return for their demonstration of commitment to fitness, Pamplin agreed to donate $3,000 to Lewis & Clark.
From the law school, twin brothers Salahudin and Mika’il Ali led the men with 40 pull-ups each. For the women, Jazz Dial CAS ’11 and Kelly Yelverton CAS ’13 topped the charts with 16 pull-ups each. Jim Proctor, director of environmental studies, led the faculty contingent with 20 pull-ups.
Those who participated received various awards, courtesy of the campus bookstore, Nike, Papa John’s Pizza, and Bon Appétit.
