Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team ended regular season play ranked fourth in the Northwest Conference. After advancing to the NWC’s semifinals, the Pioneers finished in third place. The team concluded regular-season play ranked as the second-best defensive scoring team in the NWC, averaging 68.4 points a game.
James Hollins CAS ‘12 finished regular-season play ranked 5th in completed three-pointers and 12th in rebounds for the NWC.
Guard David Berggren CAS ‘09, one of the most prolific three-point shooters in Lewis & Clark history, capped off his senior season seventh in the NWC in made three-pointers and was among the NWC’s top-ranked rebounders.
Tyson Papenfuss CAS ‘09 concluded his senior season in grand style, ranking 3rd in the conference in field goal percentage and blocked shots, 9th in steals, and 15th in free-throw percentage. He also earned a spot on the 2009 ESPN/CoSIDA District 8 Academic All-America First-Team.
Three Lewis & Clark players–Papenfuss, Berggren, and Hollins–finished among the NWC’s top 30 scorers for the 2008-09 season. Guard Josh Kollasch CAS ‘10 made Second Team All-Northwest Conference, with Papenfuss and Berggren making Honorable Mention All-Northwest Conference.
Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team ended the 2008–09 season leading the Northwest Conference in total rebounds, while compiling an 11-14 overall record.
Four Lewis & Clark players–Kim Kittell CAS ‘10, Christina Herring CAS ‘11, Margaret Dowling CAS ‘12, and Talerra Rich CAS ‘12–finished among the NWC’s top 30 scorers for the 2008–09 season. Both Dowling and Herring made the Honorable Mention All-Northwest Conference team.
Swimming
The women’s swimming team closed their season with a strong third-place team finish at the Northwest Conference Championships, with 11 new school records set by 6 different swimmers. The men’s team placed seventh overall in the NWC Championships.
Women’s swimmer Koy Collier CAS ‘09 finished second in the 200 Freestyle while at the championships. In addition, in the leadoff to the 400 free relay, she broke the previous Lewis & Clark record for the 100 free.
Claire Jordan CAS ‘10 broke Lewis & Clark’s record for the 500 free with her fifth-place finish at conference championships, and placed fifth in the 1000 free and fourth in the 1650 free.
Lindsay Nixon CAS ‘09 won the 200 individual medley at conference championships, also breaking the Lewis & Clark record for the 400 individual medley with her second-place finish. Nixon’s times in both events were fast enough to earn her provisional NCAA qualifying times. She is currently awaiting the conclusion of all Division III conference championships to see if her times are good enough to send her to the NCAA Division III Championships.
Along with Nixon, both Collier and Annie Hay CAS ‘09 posted provisional qualifying times for NCAA Nationals.
