New Opportunity to Experience Asia

Lewis & Clark has been invited by the Henry Luce Foundation to join 67 select colleges and universities across the country to participate in the Luce Scholars Program. The program represents a major effort by the Luce Foundation to provide an awareness of Asia among potential leaders in American society. This opportunity further enriches the college’s strong commitment to academics and global engagement.

“I can think of no single event in recent years that more eloquently acknowledges the quality of a Lewis & Clark education than does this invitation to join such a distinguished group of institutions,” says President Tom Hochstettler. “This invitation offers our students a tremendous opportunity to engage our global community in a meaningful way.”

Launched in 1974, the Luce Scholars Program is aimed at a group of highly qualified young Americans in a variety of professional fields. It is unique among American-Asian exchanges in that it is intended for young leaders who have had no prior experience of Asia and who might not otherwise have an opportunity in the normal course of their careers to come to know Asia or their Asian counterparts. The program provides stipends and internships for 18 young Americans to live and work in Asia each year. Lewis & Clark may nominate up to two students or young alumni (up to age 29) for the program.
