Julia Unangst Appointed Assistant Vice President of Sponsored Projects and Research Compliance (SPARC)
Julia Unangst, who has been serving as the interim assistant vice president since May, has been appointed to the role in an ongoing capacity as of November 1.
Julia Unangst hit the ground running since rejoining the SPARC office, building on her strong relationships with faculty and staff across the institution and supporting numerous significant grant proposals in recent months.
Julia joined Lewis & Clark in 2008, first spending seven years as the director of summer sessions in the College of Arts and Sciences. She began working in the SPARC office in October 2016, when she managed two large programmatic grants, engaged with research compliance activities, and assisted in the pre-award process. Julia then joined Foundation Relations and Strategic Philanthropy in the Advancement Office in October 2019, where she worked closely with faculty and staff to secure grant funding from private foundations and provided financial management on the College’s private grants.
The SPARC office, which includes Julia, Jessica Sweeney, and Nicole Brockway, helps identify governmental funding opportunities, aids in proposal and budget development, facilitates the submission of grant applications, and works closely with faculty and staff throughout the life cycle of a funded project, from award set-up to closeout. The office is also a resource for research compliance with regard to institutional policies, applicable regulations, and required training. The SPARC office is in Albany 208.
