Did you know that Watzek Library purchased 3,012 individual print and e-book titles last year alone?

From novels and peer reviewed journal articles to special collections and academic works, Aubrey R. Watzek library is a place for students, faculty, and staff to do research, catch up on reading for classes or write their next paper. As Hannah Ring BA ’19 said about choosing where to go to school, “if I closed my eyes and imagined myself studying or simply thought of the word college, I would see myself sitting in Watzek Library or on the lawn under a big tree at Lewis & Clark.”

Want to guess how many potential jobs and internships were sourced for L&C students so far this year by the Career Center?

68,944

Not only does the Career Center help students (and recent graduates) find internships and jobs, they also do outreach to physically introduce students to companies and opportunities in the Portland area. Over Spring Break a group of Lewis & Clark College students were able to visit four companies that have offices in the Portland area: Enterprise Mobility, Daimler Truck North America, adidas, and On, where they learned about jobs, internships, company culture, and so much more. The Career Center made these arrangements in coordination with alumni at each organization, and a chance to network in this way can have a lasting impact on a graduate’s career path.

60%

How many of you took a life-changing trip abroad? Well you’re not alone. 60% of our undergraduates study overseas or off-campus during their time at L&C.

Overseas & Off-campus programs provide students the opportunity to experience what it means to be involved in first-hand knowledge of particular issues of each host environment. They can take their previous academic exploration at Lewis & Clark’s and see how it comes to life in a new city or country. Students get the opportunity to immerse themselves in a different culture or landscape, all while studying subjects that enhance that experiential learning.

Mithila Tambe, BA ’25 participated in our Siena, Italy study abroad, a regional studies program with a language component. In her words: “I chose this program because the curriculum taught here aligns very well with my major. I have gotten the chance to observe artworks and social phenomena that I studied and learned about back in Portland; doing so has broadened not just my curiosities but also career goals and options. The concentration of European art and movements and the effort behind conserving them has shown me first hand what the intersection and importance of the fields of museum studies, art history, and archaeology looks like for contemporary politics, people, and values.”

15,000’

And when we say we empower our students to reach new heights, sometimes we mean literally! On one College Outdoors trip L&C students reached 15,000’ in elevation!

College Outdoors has provided incredible experiences and leadership opportunities to students for over forty years. The program is motivated by the objective of encouraging students to venture outdoors and discover the beauty of the greater Pacific Northwest. They offer day and weekend trips during the semesters, Fall Break trips, Spring Break trips, and New Student Trips for incoming first-year students. Besides providing outdoor trips, College Outdoors also offers practical leadership opportunities that benefit students beyond their four years at Lewis & Clark. Decades of alumni have meaningful memories of this program and it continues to be an integral part of current student’s L&C experience.

Hopefully these snapshots of the incredible resources and opportunities at Lewis & Clark have shown you that your gift to the Annual Fund matters. Whether it’s supporting research that grabs headlines or providing opportunities that have the power to change the world we want to maintain these exceptional opportunities for our students!
