Athletics Adds Trio of New Head Coaches

Track and Field: Chris Reed

Chris Reed comes to Palatine Hill after serving as the lead distance coach at NCAA Division II Seattle Pacific University. During his time with the Falcons, Reed helped Seattle Pacific win the Great North- west Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track & Field Championship four times and the GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Title five times. He also led the cross country program to the National Championship Meet on three occasions. In their most recent trip to Nationals, Seattle Pacific’s cross country team finished 12th out of 34 teams—their best finish since 2009. As a student-athlete, Reed was named an All-American twice and qual- ified for Nationals five times at Western Oregon University (NCAA DII).

Golf: Brad Breier

Brad Breier was named L&C’s golf coach in July after helping lead the University of Redlands’ women’s golf to a top-10 finish at the NCAA DIII National Championship Tournament. In his first season as a lead assistant with the Bulldogs, Redlands finished in the top three in both men’s and women’s golf at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament, and the women’s golf team finished sixth overall at Nationals. The women’s team set a program record for the lowest individual average score in program history (75.02), and they had three players earn All-American status. Brier is no stranger to the Pacific Northwest and the Northwest Conference. He played baseball at fellow Northwest Conference school Willamette University and earned All-Conference honors twice.

Swimming: Caitlin DeNise

Caitlin DeNise was elevated to the interim head men’s and women’s swimming coach position in August. DeNise spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Pioneers and helped 10 student- athletes earn All-Conference honors. During her tenure, swimmers have racked up 46 top-10 marks for the history books and set three program records (all during the 2022–23 season). Prior to her time at Lewis & Clark, DeNise served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Cal State East Bay University (NCAA DII), and the University of the Pacific (NCAA DI). While swimming at Cal State East Bay, DeNise set multiple school records and qualified for the NCAA DII Finals in the 100 butterfly.
