Curtis to Discuss Disaster Management Model for Small Colleges
His panel discussion titled Incident Management Team—Not a One-Size Fits All Approach outlines a simple method to developing and maintaining an emergency operations team that works best for small colleges.
The approach focuses on the basics of small trainings and tabletops that anticipate the next likely disaster. Examples include hosting a spring semester tabletop exercise on responding to summer wildfires, and a fall semester tabletop on responding to the problems snow and ice cause during winter weather.
“When you engage the emergency operations team in reviewing and updating the various emergency plans, it gives them ownership of the planning process and ensures they have a working knowledge of the plans,” Curtis said.
