1990s

Patrick Emerson ’90 received a master of arts degree in public policy and administration from the Center for Development at the University of Wisconsin at Madison in May 1994 and completed his doctorate in economics at Cornell University in May 2000. He is an assistant professor in the economics department at the University of Colorado at Denver. Emerson married Kristina Engstrom ’91 in San Rafael, Calif., Sept. 18, 1999. Engstrom is a special consultant to the research department in the University of Colorado Foundation.

Patrick (Buddy) Mele ’90 and Kirsten Miller Mele ’91, M.S. ’96 welcomed a son, Gage Anthony, in September 1999. Gage joins sister Madison Rose, 3. The family lives in Utah.

John Pearce ’90 and Elizabeth Manning were married Aug. 12, 2000. Pearce works as a wildlife biologist and geneticist for the U.S. Geological Survey’s Alaska Biological Science Center. Manning is a reporter for the Anchorage (Alaska) Daily News and covers wildlife and public-land issues.

Stewart Crosby ’91 and wife Lesley welcomed the arrival of Nicholas Newhall, who was born June 4, 2000. Crosby is in his third year of a four-year master’s program in landscape architecture at the University of Oregon.

Laura Reeves Ford ’91 is an administrative assistant for the emergency department at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis; she works primarily for the senior director. Husband Jess Ford ’91 is currently director of technology for a new company, where he works with cutting-edge technology on polymer coatings. The couple lives in the St. Louis area.

Laura Mundt ’91 is a childbirth educator. She teaches childbirth classes to new parents at Portland Providence Medical Center.

Timothy Robbins ’91 is enjoying a new career as confidential assistant to Librarian of Congress James H. Billington. He is experiencing the energetic political scene of Capitol Hill and is immersing himself in the cultural, diplomatic and scholarly life of the Library of Congress. Robbins earned a master of arts degree in international affairs from George Washington University.

Wendy Levy Rush ’91 married Eliot Rush Aug. 6, 2000, at the Columbia Gorge Hotel in Hood River. The couple lives near Boston.

Eric Taussig ’91 left Citibank Securities in May 1999 to enter The Wharton School and Joseph H. Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. This May, he will lead a group of 30 fellow M.BA students on a corporate and cultural tour of Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai, China. Taussig will remain in Asia for the summer to work for the Hong Kong office of Goldman Sachs and Co.

Gregory (Greg) Veerman ’91 recently joined the creative department at Tyee Euro RSCG as a television-advertising scriptwriter.

Lewis Barlow ’92 is selling Internet advertising for 24/7 Media Asia in Shanghai, China.

Alison King Bleich ’92 married Jay Bleich May 6, 2000.

Edgard Garcia ’92 is working as a technical translator.

Todd Harmon ’92 and wife Elizabeth have a daughter, Mollie, who was born Aug. 12, 1999.

Maya Milhous ’92 received a James Abbot Hoeven Jr./Sr. Graduate Scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in computer information systems at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

Jennifer O’Brien ’92 received a degree in graphic design from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She is currently working in strategic brand planning at Kuester Partners in Minneapolis.

Nathan Radcliffe ’92 married Melissa Smith June 24, 2000. Radcliffe is a mathematics and chemistry teacher at Tillamook High School. Smith is an eighth-grade science teacher at Tillamook Junior High School.

Stephanie Roth ’92 and husband Christopher Powers welcomed their son, Alexander Jason, May 14, 2000.

Hendrik Schouten ’92 lives in San Salvador, El Salvador, with his wife, Patricia, and their children, Nicolle and Erik. Schouten completed his master of international management degree at Thunderbird in 1995. He is the regional marketing manager of mobile communications service for Telefonica Centroamerica.

Jason Stanford ’92 and his wife welcomed their first child, Henry Durdan, Jan. 15. They live in Austin, Texas.

Marybeth Cruikshank Stewart-Scots ’92 is a technical writer and content editor for Alpine Internet Development, which is owned by Brian Cash ’89 . She also teaches Internet-related community education classes as a community service.

Kirsten Udani ’92 and husband Robert welcomed their daughter, Maya, Feb. 22, 2000.

Sarah Woods ’92 recently relocated to Hong Kong with her 3-year-old son. She works as a service manager for the Internet Technology group.

Lauren Ball ’93 is logistics coordinator for the Everglades Outward Bound Center in Everglades City, Fla. The center is part of the North Carolina Outward Bound School. Ball resides in Madison, Wis.

Thomas Blitz ’93 is pursuing a career in landscape architecture. He previously appeared in several television and magazine advertisements, performed on stage and had a recurring role on the daytime soap opera “As the World Turns.”

Christine Ho ’93 and husband Alan Silva have moved from Hong Kong to settle in Sydney, Australia.

Anne Elizabeth Jackson ’93 received her master of arts in teaching degree from Concordia University in May 2000. She is teaching English at Marshall High School in Portland. Jackson married Michael Kelly ’91 on Sept. 3, 2000.

Virginia Lindemann ’93 has been selected by the U.S. Institute of Peace as one of 25 nationwide participants for the summer Institute for Secondary Social Studies Teachers, an exclusive seminar in Washington, D.C. She teaches Advanced Placement American history, government and economics at Conifer High School in Colorado.

Kathleen Eugster Middleton ’93 and husband Guy Middleton are proud parents of Jack Price, who was born April 12, 2000.

Jason Mushorn ’93 is a biology teacher. He lives in Phoenix, Ariz.

Tammie Cypher Nelson ’93 and husband JD welcomed daughter Heidi Anne Sept. 8, 2000. Heidi joins sister Amanda.

Amy Beacom ’94 is pursuing a graduate degree in organizational psychology at Columbia University.

Robert Winslow Blunt ’95 received a master’s degree from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California.*

Grant Crosby ’95 is finishing his studies in historic preservation at the University of Oregon. He worked this past summer as an intern for the National Park Service in Alaska. Crosby documented copper ore processing equipment in the Kennecott Mill, which is located in the Wrangell Mountains, east of Anchorage. He lives at the Doris Ranch in Springfield.

Cable Green ’95 married Lesley Parker ’96 July 23, 2000. Green is director of educational technology and an assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy at The Ohio State University. He also is finishing his doctorate in educational technology at the university. Parker is working toward her doctor of veterinary medicine degree as a second-year veterinary medicine student at Ohio State and is conducting research on cat contraception.

Patrick Paolo Matoto ’95 is in his second year of graduate work at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. His concentration of study is international finance and economic development.

Joseph Mitchoff II ’95 married Kate Houston Sept. 16, 2000. Mitchoff is a manager at QC Optical. Houston is a school corps librarian at the Multnomah County Library.

Sylvia Sissel ’95 completed a master’s degree in education at Portland State University in December 2000. She is director of development research and records at Lewis & Clark.

Amy Timmins ’95 works at a domestic violence prevention agency in San Francisco.

Susan Wiberg ’95 received a master’s degree in social work from Smith College’s School for Social Work in August 2000.

Andrea Palmer ’96 worked as a researcher and grant writer for a statewide nonprofit legal services provider in her home state of Kansas after graduating from Lewis & Clark. She married Tom Beall in May 1997, and they welcomed their daughter, Bannon Kay, in April 2000. Palmer is currently retired from work “on the outside.”

Shannon Horvath Pullen ’96 was married Aug. 27, 2000.

Dasya Duckworth Real ’96 married Rogerio Real June 3, 2000, in San Francisco, Calif. She works for Rite Aid. The couple lives in Vista, Calif.

Benjamin (Ben) Romo ’96 started a political consulting, government and public relations firm in Santa Barbara, Calif. He served as the campaign manager for the successful re-election campaign for U.S. Rep. Lois Capps.

Greg Baxter ’97 works for Manex Visual Effects in Alameda, Calif., where he will be working on the next Matrix movie. For two years, Baxter worked at Lucas Films’ Industrial Light and Magic in San Rafael, Calif., where he worked on Star Wars Episode I and The Mummy.

Zachary Boone ’97 and Jennifer Payne ’98were married May 20, 2000. Boone is an administrative assistant at the Center for Self-Determination at Oregon Health Sciences University. Payne is an office coordinator at the Oregon Children’s Foundation.

Elicia Foster ’97 and Day Ligon ’97 were married June 15, 2000, in Akumal, Mexico. Foster is a physics and chemistry teacher. Ligon is a student and student-teacher at Oklahoma State University. The couple lives in Stillwater, Okla.

Vicki Gettings ’97 teaches Spanish at the Anacapa School in Santa Barbara, Calif. She spent a month in Puerto Rico with her younger sister last summer.

Richelle Tustin Luther ’97 married Douglas Luther April 1, 2000, at the Portland Art Museum.

Julianna Nelson Vermeys ’97 married Mark Nelson. After spending the summer traveling the United States by car, the couple settled in San Diego, Calif.

Matthew Ehrmann ’98 is a graphic designer in Santa Monica, Calif.

James Hopper ’98 is the executive director for Preservation Idaho (the Idaho Historic Preservation Council), a 27-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and preserving historic buildings and sites and to developing heritage education programming for the state curriculum.

Erica Petersen Johnson ’98 married Lance Johnson Aug. 12, 2000. Erica is the assistant dean of admissions at Lewis & Clark. Lance is a third-year law student at Lewis & Clark Law School.

Jason Rodgers ’98, MAT ’99 and Jessica Youngman ’98 were married in July 2000. Rodgers is a music teacher at a middle school. Youngman is working toward her master’s degree in environmental science at Portland State University.

Ryan Thomas ’98 is a staff member for the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate.

Emily Williams ’98 recently served as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity

in Nicaragua.

Nina Hall ’99 is working at the Mössbauer Effect Data Center at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She edits an international scientific journal. Hall and her husband, Derrick, live in Asheville, N.C.

Kelly Hicks ’99 is the California executive fellow for the California Children and Family Commission.

Jessica Roberts ’99 is the content development manager at Tranxition, a software company. She keeps busy through volunteer work for the Bicycle Transportation Alliance and the SMART program. Roberts recently completed a cross-country bike trek and trips to Alaska and India.

Kenneth (Ken) Westin ’99 married Sohyun Park July 16, 2000. Westin is a graphic artist at Eye-Velocity.
