Mary Jean Bird ’80 received a master of divinity and master of arts in Christian education from Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education May 28, 2000, at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Va.
Michael Hedrick ’80 is an associate professor of biology at California State University. He and his wife, Julie Glass, have a son, Alexander, who was born in June 2000. They live in Oakland, Calif.
Denise Rollin ’80 is the human resources manager at the University of Washington, Bothell campus.
James (Jamie) Forman ’81 is in his 15th year as a lawyer and in his eighth year as a partner with the firm Rider, Bennett, Egan & Arundel. He remains active with the American Bar Association and in children’s advocacy work; he presently chairs the ABA’s Steering Committee on the Unmet Legal Needs of Children. Forman is the current president of the Lewis & Clark College Board of Alumni. He and his wife, Karen, have two children: Ben, 9, and Mia, 4.
Susan Larrance ’81 graduated from the University of Washington School of Law in June 2000. She is working for a state appeals court judge in Tacoma, Wash., until summer and hopes to practice immigration law after her clerkship is over. Larrance continues to be involved with Lewis & Clark as a member of the Board of Alumni. She and her husband, Roberto Alvarez ’81 , have two sons: David, 11, and Carlos, 7.
Susan Taylor ’81 practices energy and environmental law in Albany, N.Y. She and her husband are the parents of Elizabeth, 4, and Emily, 2.
Lee Weinstein ’81 married Melinda Gadwood May 29, 2000, in Wailea, Hawaii. He is director of communications at Nike USA.
Timothy Lim ’82 has worked as a professor of international relations and comparative politics at California State University, Los Angeles, since 1997. He recently published a book on global issues and is working on two other books, which he hopes to have published this year. Lim married Atsuko Sato in May 1999. They live in Monrovia, Calif.
Aysegul Acar-Dreyer ’83 welcomed daughter Alize Rose Dreyer, who was born in March 2000.
Mary Kring Hoefel ’83 retired in February 2000 after 16 years with Nordstrom. She is a full-time mother with two young children and serves as a volunteer in the classroom, with the local PTA and also at her church.
Kurt Carlson ’84 is executive editor of Transitions Abroad magazine, which focuses on alternative travel, study, work and living abroad. He and his wife, Cathy, have two children: Minta, 10, and Peter, 5. They live in Northampton, Mass.
Susan Corlett ’84 is director of development for the East Bay Agency for Children in Oakland, Calif.
Andrew Miller ’84 is working in Hong Kong for Chinadotcom Corp., where he works closely with the CEO and COO to drive the company toward increasing margins, to derive synergies across diverse properties and to steer the company toward profitability. He and his wife, Gym, have a daughter, Mya Rose.
Edward Williams ’84 is married with three children. He and his family live in Chico, Calif.
Zahir Amanulla ’85 is CEO of Vista Advertising and Business Consultants, a public relations and advertising agency in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The agency’s clients include Microsoft and Hewlett Packard. Amanulla’s wife, Zahara, is a human resource manager at Union Assurance. The couple’s son, Imaad, was born May 26, 2000.
Angelina Beitia ’85 and husband Jim Hyde welcomed their first child, Claire, Sept. 22, 2000. Beitia is the marketing director for a high-tech communications company. She and her family live in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Charles Bingham ’85 has launched a new Web site, Alaska Sports Online, which offers sports and outdoor news from around Alaska. The site covers such topics as local high school sports, colleges, Iditarod race, Alaska League baseball, World Eskimo-Indian Olympics and Arctic Winter Games. Bingham also works as a sports reporter for the Juneau (Alaska) Empire.
Gabrielle Brewer-Wallin ’85, MAT ’94 is teaching theater and is directing at Lewis & Clark. Her husband, Robert Brewer-Wallin ’86 , is teaching theater and is designing costumes at Willamette University. Their daughter, Emma, 4, attends NW Montessori.
James Broude ’85 has closed his restaurant in New York City after 17 years in the restaurant business. He has joined the dot-com world as a core member of the restaurant B2B. Broude has been married for 7 years, and he has a 2-year-old daughter.

Stephany Brown ’85 coordinates school-business partnerships for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools in Charlotte, N.C. She received a master of public administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a certificate in nonprofit management from Duke University. Brown was appointed by the Charlotte City Council to the City/County Transit Advisory Committee.
Peter Carlin ’85 left the staff of People Magazine, where he had been a writer since 1996, to take a position as television columnist/critic for The Oregonian. He and his wife live in Portland with their two children, Anna and Teddy.
Gregory (Greg) Martin ’85 and his family have moved from Dallas, Texas, to Sacramento, Calif. He is a senior systems analyst for Health Net Inc. Martin’s position supports employee benefits, payroll and human resources systems.
Justine Miani ’85 was the first woman and 12th overall finisher of the Crater Lake Rim Marathon in August 2000.
Gretchen Wilbur Shinoda ’85 is the career counselor at the International University of Japan.
Wesley (Wes) Lawrence ’81 is executive vice president and Midwest regional executive for Key Private Bank. He is a 16-year veteran with KeyBank.

Sheri Bartlett Browne ’86 is working toward completion of her doctorate in American history from the University of Minnesota. She is a busy single parent with three children: Elizabeth, Ian and Samuel.
Debra Sohrt Flickinger ’86 is senior public relations writer for Gard, Strang, Edwards and Aldridge.
LeAnne Desilet Frank ’86 works for Cisco Systems Inc. as public relations manager in its service provider line of business.
Eileen Gard Johnson ’86 and her husband welcomed their first child, Noah Daniel, Dec. 23, 1999. She is a stay-at-home mother.
M. Scott Arena ’87 has been named vice president of management operations for GSL Properties Inc., a real estate company that specializes in development, acquisition and management of large multifamily residential projects throughout Oregon, California, New Mexico and Washington. He and his wife, Jill Schmatjen Arena ’90 , celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary last July. Jill is principal/owner of Arena and Associates LLC, a medical practice consulting firm that specializes in development, finance and administration of group medical practice operations. The couple lives in Tigard.
Stephen Booth ’87 and his wife, Lisa, have two children: Benjamin, 3, and Cameron, 1.
Quantz Bruns-Kyler ’87 recently relocated to Atlanta with her husband and two children.
William Fritz ’87 finished his master of education degree, with a specialization in educational technology, and graduated with honors from National University. He currently teaches French and Spanish at John H. Glenn High School in Norwalk, Calif.
Jamil Mustafa ’87 is an assistant professor of English at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill.
Eric Swehla ’87 is a second-grade teacher at Clarendon Elementary School in Portland. He and his wife, Janet Range ’87 , live in Portland with their two children.
Anastasia Christensen Tibbetts ’87 and Kirk Tibbetts, Jr., ’87 welcomed son Pierce Oct. 24, 2000.
Karen Leppink Bryan ’88 and husband Mike welcomed son Matthew Evan in December 1999. Matthew joins older sister Elizabeth, 3. Bryan and her family live in Portland.
Beth Foster ’88 recently moved to Portland from Washington, D.C. She owns a direct marketing consulting business for political and nonprofit clients.
David Lashley ’88 and Jean Kim Lashley ’90returned to Portland after David completed a fellowship in pediatric urology in San Diego, Calif. Their second daughter, Olivia, was born Nov. 8, 2000.
Lisa Jacobs Peloquin ’88 and her husband welcomed Ethan Noah Peloquin May 20, 2000. Ethan joins older sister Olivia, 3.
Noel Johnson Jackson ’89 and David Jackson ’90 welcomed their daughter, Charlotte Grace, July 16, 2000. Charlotte joins older brother Wyatt, 3, and is also welcomed in spirit by her aunt Anne Jackson ’93 , uncle Michael (Mike) Kelly ’91 and aunt Claudia Johnson ’85 .
