Smith Hall Dedicated
On September 26, U.S. Senator Gordon Smith officially dedicated the great hall in Albany Quadrangle. Now known as Gordon H. Smith Hall, the beautifully restored meeting space is the site of many of the College’s public programs, including national seminars and lectures in commemoration of the Lewis and Clark Expedition Bicentennial. Smith’s leadership has been instrumental in the College’s efforts over the past four years to secure more than $3.2 million for bicentennial programming and for the renovation and expansion of Albany Quadrangle.
“Up until now, the only thing with my name on it has been a drinking fountain on a street in Pendleton,” said Smith. “While it is a very nice drinking fountain, it’s just a tad bit smaller than this beautiful hall.”
U.S. Senator Gordon Smith dedicates Smith Hall as Mary Bishop (seated, left), vice chair of the Board of Trustees, and Jane Atkinson, vice president and provost of the College, look on.
