Cross Country

The Pioneer women’s cross country team enjoyed a stand-out season, finishing second at the Northwest Conference Championship. It was the highest finish by a women’s cross country team at Lewis & Clark since 1978, the second year of the program’s existence. The Pioneers had six runners in the top half of the finishers, a record high for the program. Carla McHattie ‘06, from St. Paul, Minnesota, became the first female Pioneer to win the individual championship. Teammates Tamma Carleton ‘09, from Elk, California, and Laura Sbordone ‘07, from Scottsdale, Arizona, joined McHattie for First Team All-Northwest Conference honors. Carleton was the first Pioneer woman since 1988 to qualify for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship, where she finished 80th among 213 runners.

Soccer

The Pioneers had a breakout season in 2005, going from a winless conference season in 2004 to finishing sixth in the Northwest Conference, with a 5-9-2 NWC record. For the second straight season, striker Lisa Housman ‘08, from Beverly Hills, California, was voted to Second Team All-Northwest Conference.

Volleyball

The Pioneers finished the 2005 season with their best win percentage since 1991 and with more conference victories than any other Pioneer team since that same season. (The team’s overall record was 9-15; their conference record was 5-11.) Middle hitter Audrey Dilling ‘06, from San Jose, California, was named to Second Team All-Northwest Conference. She’s the first Pioneer since 1997 to earn more than an honorable mention in postseason volleyball honors.
