New to the Board
Lewis & Clark’s Board of Trustees has welcomed several new faces–plus one returning member. As the body responsible for the ongoing success of the College, the board is empowered to appoint the president and make major financial and planning decisions.
Dick Geary spent his 41-year career in construction with Kiewit Pacific Company, where he rose from engineer to president. Since his retirement in July 1998, he has continued as a director with Peter Kiewit Sons’. Geary is a trustee and past chair of the Oregon Health & Science University Foundation, and a former member of the boards of the Portland Opera, Portland General Electric, Standard Insurance and Stancorp Financial Group, Friends of the Children, and Today’s Bank.
Martha Stein-Sochas BA ’78 is a director with the French Development Agency, which works on behalf of the French government to finance economic growth, reduce poverty and inequity, and build capacity and competency in over 40 countries worldwide. She is also a part-time professor of development economics at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris.
Jay Waldron has practiced environmental and energy law with Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt since 1974. The current president of the Port of Portland Commission, Waldron has served on or chaired numerous boards, including the Oregon Law Foundation, the Clackamas County Planning Commission, the Campaign for Equal Justice, and the Portland Metropolitan Studies Institute. He helped found the East County Legal Clinic and also serves on several state panels addressing transportation issues.
John Wright BS ’83 is a returning member to the board. Wright is the founder and CEO of the Global Sage Group, a financial services executive search firm. His award-winning business has attracted international attention and earned him the chairmanship of the Japan Council of the Association of Executive Search Consultants. Wright leads a chapter of Lewis & Clark alumni in China. His previous board service ended in 2003.
Ex-Officio Members
Alan Humphrey BA ’81 is the new president of the undergraduate college’s alumni board. After an 18-year career in the software industry, he is now semiretired and works part time as a consultant to nonprofit organizations.
John Kodachi JD ’92 is the new president of the law school’s alumni association. He is a business, employment, and immigration law attorney at Bullivant Houser Bailey. Kodachi is president of the Japanese American Citizens League and corporate secretary of the Japan America Society of Oregon.
