General Resources
- National Alliance on Mental Illness: Identity and Cultural Dimensions in Mental Health
- Asian American/Pacific Islander Communities and Mental Health Information on the AAPI community, mental health within the community, barriers to treatment and some resources for the AAPI community.
- Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective (BEAM) Collective of advocates, yoga teachers, artists, therapists. Lawyers, religious leaders, teachers, psychologists and activists committed to the emotional/mental health and healing of Black communities.
- Some resources for professionals as well as clients who identify as black. A reminder of Black excellence: Black Men Heal, Black Mental Health Alliance, Black Mental Wellness
- Crisis Line for Racial Equity Support Calls are answered by individuals with lived experience with racism. 503-575-3764. Answered weekdays 10:00am-7:00pm.
- Dealing With Discrimination For many people, discrimination is an everyday reality. Discrimination is the unfair or prejudicial treatment of people and groups based on characteristics such as race, gender, age or sexual orientation.
- Latinx/Hispanic Communities And Mental Health Information on the Latinx/Hispanic community, mental health within this community, barriers to treatment and some resources for the Latinx/Hispanic community.
- Native and Indigenous Communities And Mental Health Information on the Native and Indigenous community, mental health within this community, barriers to treatment and some resources for the Native and Indigenous community. (note: local referrals may be limited)
- Ways to Fill Your Cup 4 Ways People of Color can Foster Mental Health and Practice Restorative Healing.
- National Queer & Trans Therapists of Color Network The NEQTTCN is a healing justice organization committed to transforming mental health for queer and trans people of color (QTPoC). (note: local referrals may be limited)
- Therapy for Latinx is a database of therapists who either identify as Latinx or have worked closely with and understands the unique needs of the Latinx community. The website is also offered in Spanish.
- National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA) is a federation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Asian American, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander organizations.
- Steve Fund a space dedicated to the mental health and emotional well-being of students of color.
- Melanin & Mental Health A space to find culturally competent clinicians who are committed to meeting the mental health needs of Black and Latinx/Hispanic Communities. There is also access to this great resource list and dope merchandise ☺
- Asian Mental Health Collective is a global nonprofit organization with the mission of normalizing and de-stigmatizing mental health within the Asian Community through projects such as Facebook groups, resource library, video web-series, and meet up groups.
Resources for Substance Use Disorder/Addictions
- Bicycle Health: Addiction in the BIPOC Community: Everything You Need to Know A virtual care platform that provides empathetic, affordable, person-to-person care at scale, including medication management, behavioral health treatment, support groups, and care coordination, supporting patients wherever they are in their recovery journey.
- Addictions.com: BIPOC Addiction and Mental Health Resources This website offers some psychoeducation about addictions in general and has this resource page specific for information about addiction in the BIPOC community
Media Resources
- Meditation… Black lives matter meditation for healing racial trauma. “Guided meditation is one way to assist in calming a heightened state of distress, affirming one’s value and humanity, and re-centering with love for Black people.”
- Liberate Meditation is a subscription-based mediation app that includes practices and talks designed for the Black community.
- The Safe Place is a minority mental health app geared towards the Black community. This app brings together awareness of mental health, education, self-care tips, and more all in one place. While it is geared towards the Black Community, everyone can benefit from it.
Dr. Erlanger “Earl” Turner, PhD is a licensed psychologist, psychology professor, author, and nationally recognized mental health expert. He has been seen in numerous outlets such as Oprah Magazine, New York Times, and Washington Post. Join Dr. Earl as he shares his perspective as a Black male psychologist on the Breakdown with Dr. Earl Podcast. The Breakdown is a Mental Health Podcast that focuses on topics related to Black boys and men such as wellness, mental health, parenting, and personal development.
