Financial Information Essentials 2024-25
Amid summer activities, work, and vacations it’s important to make time to prepare for the next school year. This page is provided to help summarize essential financial information and guide you through the nuts and bolts of financial planning for the upcoming academic year. Please review it for details about your student account, financial aid, and Lewis & Clark’s Student Health Insurance Plan.
In the months ahead, students can expect to receive additional communications from us. While our primary method of communication is your LC email account, we will also use the preferred mailing address on record with the college. We encourage you to review the Costs information of our website as a tool to help assist you in determining your estimated out-of-pocket expenses for the academic year ahead. Please note, students subject to the health insurance requirement must submit the waiver by the deadline or you will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan for the academic year. Additionally, students subject to the Green Energy Fee and Media Fee must complete the opt-out by the deadline in order to not contribute toward these programs.
We look forward to seeing you when the fall semester begins!
Student and Departmental Account Services will produce electronic statements itemizing the activity on your account. Notification is sent to the student’s Lewis & Clark email address when a new bill is available for viewing in the Student Account Center. You, the student, bear financial responsibility for your account. Once you have a bill available, you may log in to the Student Account Center and establish Authorized Party access for a designated parent or guardian to also view your statements and make payments on your student account by going to the Manage Account Access and enrolling each party in access.
The first statement of each semester will be generated according to the schedule outlined under Important Dates. Thereafter, bills will be created monthly if your account maintains a balance due.
Your account must be settled by the semester due date listed under Important Dates, whether or not you have retrieved your statement. If further costs are incurred after the semester due date has passed, such as additional registration costs, payment is due immediately upon incurring the fee.
To settle your account, you may choose to do one or more of the following: Make a full payment of your balance due, utilize financial aid funding which includes loans, establish a monthly payment plan through Nelnet.
For a complete discussion of accepted methods of payment, including how to convert international currencies into U.S. dollars via Flywire, please go to our Making Payments page located here.
For more details on the monthly payment plan option through Nelnet, please review the Monthly Payment Option section located here.
Please verify all charges and credits appearing on your account statement. Certain forms of financial aid, such as Federal Direct PLUS Loans for graduate/professional students, Parent PLUS loans, and Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans are scheduled for disbursement at the beginning of each semester.
If you have elected to borrow under an educational loan program and all steps have been completed to secure loan funding, Lewis & Clark will consider those funds to be fully processed. Refer to your Financial Aid Award notification through WebAdvisor: Self Service to verify that all steps have been completed. You are required to pay only those balances not covered by the net proceeds of fully processed financial aid.
Federal Work-Study (FWS) funds do not qualify as fully processed financial aid and will not be considered an anticipated credit. FWS earnings are disbursed directly to you by Human Resources as monthly pay disbursements based on actual hours worked during the pay period.
If your anticipated financial aid funds are not posted to your account shortly after the start of the semester, it may be an indication that you need to take additional action. Please refer to the information provided in the award notice to confirm that you have completed the steps necessary to receive funding. Contact the Financial Aid Office at 503-768-7090 or fao@lclark.edu with any questions.

If the net proceeds of your financial aid exceed the charges on your account, you may receive a refund to help cover other education-related costs, such as living and transportation expenses, books, and supplies. Student and Departmental Account Services will process a refund only when there is a credit on your account. Financial aid still pending does not qualify for a refund.
The earliest loan funds can be posted to your student account is the beginning of the semester, but only after you have completed all steps required to secure loan funding. To ensure the timely release of any refund, we strongly encourage you to complete your portion of the student loan application process at least one month before the start of classes.
Please note: If your expenses are covered by a formal billing arrangement between Lewis & Clark and a third-party sponsor, such as an employer or government agency, after the add/drop period we will refund any credit balances in accordance to the third party payer’s sponsor agreement should refund instructions be provided. Any exceptions to this standard will be at the discretion of the sponsor.
Credit balances will be refunded either via electronic payment or paper check. If the refund is a paper check payable to you, the check will be mailed immediately to your preferred mailing address on record unless it is an international address. For more detailed information on refunds and enrolling in direct deposit, please go to the Establishing Electronic Refunds section of our Student Account Policies page located here. We cannot release refunds before the first day of the semester or session.
If you have an outstanding account balance, you will not be allowed to register for or attend courses in future semesters. Any existing registration for future terms may be canceled. Lewis & Clark also reserves the right to withhold diplomas. Full payment of the balance due is required to facilitate the release of this document and to clear you for class registration. Past-due balances not covered by fully processed financial aid, or a current monthly payment plan that meets costs, are subject to late fees assessed as follows:
Past Due Balance Late Fee Per Semester
$399 or less - $10
$400 or more- $100
