Stories make up the universe. Anything can be described or explained through stories, whether it is a person’s life or a concept in physics.
My name is Arista Engineer and I’ve been in love with stories ever since I was a little girl. I am a voracious reader and a sporadic writer.
My two years at Mahindra United World College opened up a whole new world to me. Having always lived in India, I was excited to discover different people and their perspectives on life. Here, each story had the freedom to change, to adapt, to mix. My favorite thing about UWC is that I got the opportunity to interact with these dynamic tales. In this environment every person was accepted as they were. I chose to study at Lewis & Clark because I felt that it too was a place that encouraged this freedom and would help me find new adventures. I especially loved the idea of the Living Learning Communities, as it seemed the best way to discover new people and histories and to allow people to merge and grow.
An essential element of these stories is language. Learning new languages introduced me to new cultures and their lore. As of now, I know four and a half languages (I forget a little French everyday). And I wish to keep learning more. While at Lewis & Clark, I hope to change this number to at least 6 and to push myself to create stories of my own (both fictional ad non-fictional). My plan is to major in English and go on to study Linguistics in the future. I want to read the book of the universe and contribute with adventures of my own.
