Bart Westcott

Barlow M. “Bart” Westcott ’75

Barlow M. “Bart” Westcott BA’75 is also a member of the Lewis & Clark Sustainability Advisory Board.

Now retired, Bart spent most of his career in the insurance industry, and was founding principal (1983-1997) of Chicago Underwriting Group, a leading underwriter of directors’ and officers’ liability and other special risk coverages. He is the former vice president of Professional Indemnity Agency Inc., which was sold to HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc. in 2001.

A longtime advocate for the natural world, Bart is a founding board member of Grassroots Ecology and a board member of Tuolumne River Trust. Prior to joining the Grassroots Ecology board, he served for 10 years (2003-2013) on the board of the environmental nonprofit Acterra, one of Grassroots Ecology’s predecessor organizations.

As a volunteer at the Northern California/Northern Nevada Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association since 2019, Bart is co-chairing the Longest Day campaign to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s and all other dementias.

Bart earned his BA in English from Lewis & Clark College and his MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Bart and Nancy Westcott enjoy ballroom dancing and traveling. They have two daughters, Margaret and Ann, who reside in Minneapolis.
