My name is Daniel Macha, and I am from Tanzania. I recently graduated from UWC East Africa. Being a native student within this vibrant community has allowed me to build a network of meaningful and enduring friendships throughout my life. I have cherished the opportunity to form these potential life-long connections while sharpening my mind through exposure to diverse perspectives, collaborative tasks, and even the enjoyment of various cuisines.
I have chosen to attend Lewis & Clark College because it offers a continuation of what began at UWC: a community of individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds, supported by both students and professors. I plan to major in Computer Science, a decision inspired by the needs of my local community in Tanzania. Many youth and adults in my hometown have missed out on educational opportunities and now find themselves struggling in the city. I believe that STEM, particularly computer literacy in our native language, Swahili, can empower this community and provide them with self-employment opportunities. I feel a deep sense of responsibility to help, which is why I have chosen this path.
I have a passion for football (both playing and watching) traveling, music (both instrumental and vocal), cooking, and movies. I also have a unique quirk: I tend to wear a sweater when it’s hot and dress lightly when it’s cold. My academic interests span across various disciplines, including the sciences, mathematics, some humanities, and the arts, particularly theater.
I look forward to forming new potential life-long relationships with people from diverse cultures and making full use of the resources available to me as I pursue my academic goals.
