Hi, I’m Caroline, and I have a unique background as I come from both Malawi and Mozambique.
I know it sounds unusual, but my parents are Mozambican, and I was born in Malawi. I recently spent the past two years attending UWC-USA in New Mexico. It was quite a surprise to discover that New Mexico is actually in the United States! One of the things I enjoyed most about UWC was the incredible community. Meeting people from all over the world, each with their own languages and ways of thinking, truly shaped who I am today. During my time at UWC, I discovered new skills I never knew I had, especially hiking. Coming from an African country where hiking isn’t very common, I initially didn’t like it. However, after joining the wilderness program at UWC, I learned how to live in the wilderness and developed a love for hiking and the great outdoors.
One thing which made me to apply to Lewis and Clark was the location being in the pacific west where a lot of people go for hikes and enjoy the nature captivated my eyes. As someone who likes spending time in the nature I thought that was a good place for me to spend my 4 years and getting to know a lot about Portland and its amazing landscapes. So at Lewis and Clark I am planning to major in Biochemistry and molecular biology on the pre-med track.
Two interesting things about me, foremost I taught myself Korean by watching dramas because one day I want to visit South Korea, and since a young age, I’ve always wanted to join the military because I find the uniform fascinating. As a person, I enjoy going to the gym. It’s one of the places where I can freely express myself, and being around the machines makes me happy. I also love backpacking and exploring the wilderness.
I haven’t traveled a lot in other countries, the first country which I traveled was Mozambique and then Zambia from there in the US. And am looking forward to exploring Portland, mainly the wilderness part.
