My name is Alister from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I have previously attended UWC Thailand, which resides in Phuket, Thailand. Charged by the many lazy, tropical beaches and scorching heat, I was able to pursue a variety of my passions - such as social work and STEM-research based programs. Most importantly, I learned how to connect between these two seemingly differing experiences, as shown through my engagement in coral monitoring, which led me to become a certified coral first-aider. This niche I have discovered, a crosswalk between the sciences and society, was what initially drew me to Lewis & Clark. Filled with sustainable projects which aim to tackle the world’s most pressing problems yet still benefiting both the environment and its inhabitants, I could not help but be so happy after discovering I had been accepted. As an international student in UWC Thailand, where it housed over students of 70+ different nationalities and millions of varying backgrounds, excitement grew more as I learned about Lewis & Clark’s large international community and expansive institutional pillars to champion cultural diversity and respect. I look forward to being immersed in what I can imagine to be an entirely unique experience. Additionally, I am thrilled to be attending a college which is known for their rigorous Biology course. I am interested in majoring in Biochemistry, with a minor in Neuroscience. I hope that I will be able to grasp many other opportunities that will enrich me not only academically, but also wholly, as a student, a friend, potential leader, and more.
