Hi! My name is Lazar. I come from the Balkans, a really cool part of the world. I lived my whole
life in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a small but really unique country - with outstanding nature and
weird politics.
While I was always complaining about my country as a child, I only realized how extraordinary it
is when I came to UWC, a place where I got a chance to engage in adventurous activities with
new friends. Through discovering hidden army bunkers, jumping in the cold water in a cave, to
repairing a bike in the middle of the mountain with no signal, I bonded with my new friends from
all over the world.
That being said, after graduating, I embarked on a trip around Europe, visiting some of my best
friends from UWC with a free train pass I won from DiscoverEU. This was my first solo trip, as
my travels before were mostly some international programs I attended or volunteered at.
One of my most memorable such experiences has been Youth Exchange in Armenia, which I
extended to Georgia and Turkey.
However, one of the most important lessons I learned while engaging in travels is the
importance of everyday enjoyment. So in my free time, I love playing chess, drinking coffe in the
nature, walking with my dog and plane spotting. I also started doing graffiti which I find a really
fun way to express things going over my head.
I decided to become L&C Pionieer as I wanted to live in a community similar to the one at UWC:
empathic, tight-knit and diverse. It’s location stood out as well, as a very important part of my
UWC experience was made by people I met in the city, outside of my school. Finally, when I
looked at study away programs it offers, I was sure that it’s a right choice.
While I don’t yet have any idea what will be my major at Lewis&Clark, areas I am interested in
include economics, computer science, and technical theatre so I will try to pick classes that lead
to the carrier in one of those.
I don’t have a set goal to accomplish at L&C, but I am really open to making new friends and
getting to know their life perspectives.
P.S. My friends say that I’m a super energetic and extroverted guy, so you will probably have a
better time meeting me in person than reading this, so if you see me around, feel free to
approach!
