The sun’s rays reflected off the road in the midst of July. I donned my finest scarf and hat that could barely protect my skin against the Sun. “I am ready to go, mom” I said, I knew I was going to sweat profusely despite the air conditioner on the bus.
Every day in Iran, I used to take a thirty minute ride on the bus to get to tourist attractions with the same purpose. My plan was fairly simple and fun: listen carefully to the passers-by to find out the language they speak and talk to them, go for a walk with them and invite them to your house. The little house that I lived in was full of stories since my love for exchanging cultures began by hosting tourists from all over the world. My love for what I did back in Iran drew me to finding out more about UWC and international communities. I was introduced to United World Colleges (UWC) by two of the UWC alumni who stayed at my house after I met them on one of those warm afternoons. I packed my bag and flew to Bosnia and Herzegovina upon my admission to UWC in Mostar. I enormously enjoyed all the learning experiences at UWC and welcomed every hardship with an open heart. I became mature, I learned about mental health and individuality. All of which were unpacked with an immense wave of cultural shock.
After two hectic years of UWC, I applied to Lewis & Clark College in order to major in Psychology and Studio Arts. I believe that the famous Psychology department at Lewis & Clark College along with its welcoming community will provide me with the utmost understanding of myself as a Psychologist, and an individual who wants to independently pursue Studio Arts beyond the classroom. I find both areas of knowledge so engaging and powerful. I truly am passionate about Visual Arts, Architecture, dancing, yoga and biking. I hope that I will be able to grow as an influential person and make positive contributions to the community. Lewis and Clark will bring me another road to discoveries and ups and downs. However, I believe that every road I take will be unique and spectacular in its own way. Lewis & Clark College is going to be one of the long ones, one of the ones which are packed with imperishable friendships and endless opportunities and I am ready to take the next step.
