中文之美 The Beauty of Chinese Language: Success at the US National Chinese Speech Competition

The beauty of the Chinese language was proudly showcased by three students from Lewis & Clark College, who achieved outstanding success at the U.S. National Chinese Speech Competition, organized by the American Academy of International Culture and Education. Competing in this highly prestigious event, the students from Chinese 202 and Chinese 320 demonstrated exceptional language proficiency and cultural understanding.

Tanner Lee, a student in CHIN 202, earned 2nd place in the Heritage Language category, impressing the judges with his fluency and command of Chinese. As a result of his outstanding performance, Tanner was awarded a trip to China along with the other finalists.

Hannah Day, from CHIN 320, received an Honorable Mention in the Heritage Language category, demonstrating her commitment to mastering the language. Marta Alpresa Balaguer, also from CHIN 202, secured an Honorable Mention in the Chinese as a Foreign Language category.

The competition provided a platform for these students to apply their skills and engage with a broader Chinese-speaking community. Held on Sunday, March 24th, 2024, the event was an inspiring celebration of 中文之美 (the beauty of the Chinese language), as participants showcased the richness and depth of the language.

The participation of Lewis & Clark students in their respective categories demonstrated not only their hard work and perseverance but also their passion for Chinese culture and language. These accomplishments underscore the success of our Chinese language program, which nurtures both linguistic skills and cultural appreciation.

Congratulations to Tanner, Hannah, and Marta on their impressive achievements in celebrating the beauty of the Chinese language!
