main content A commitment to our mission and our community

February 10, 2025

Dear L&C community,

I wanted to send a note acknowledging the raised anxieties and concerns resulting from the first three weeks of our new U.S. presidential administration. It’s understandable that, in a rapidly changing environment with new executive orders being issued at unprecedented speed, many members of the community are experiencing a range of emotions, from feeling overwhelmed to fear for themselves or others. I also want to acknowledge that there are both potential and real impacts for people in our community as well as to our institution.

Amidst this time of uncertainty, my goal, and the goal of my leadership team, is to provide timely, accurate, and helpful information to the people most affected and, when appropriate, to the entire community. While I do not plan to send frequent campus-wide statements or comment publicly on every issue, preparing for potential impacts on our campus and the L&C community are top of mind for me. Support for our students, staff, and faculty is at the forefront of my team’s daily conversations, decisions, and actions. We continue to actively monitor actions and announcements coming out of Washington that might directly affect our campus, our mission, our students, and our community.

Our commitment to embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive campus remains unchanged, as does our promise to support all members of our community.

If you are in need of extra information or support, please do not hesitate to reach out to the appropriate staff member or access support from a particular office, such as the Student Counseling Center or the Employee Assistance Program.

This is a time for us to draw together as a community, something that we at Lewis & Clark do very well. I am grateful for everything that each of you is doing to take care of yourselves and each other.

Robin H. Holmes-Sullivan

President
