A Milestone in Our Strategic Planning

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for all of the hard work and insights you provided during our strategic planning process over the last year. You showed up in so many ways, and we’ve reached a big milestone.

On Friday, October 18, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved The L&C Advantage with its three strategic imperatives, as well as a revised mission statement. We’ve now updated the strategic planning webpage with the final document, which was revised with the good feedback that you provided earlier this fall.

The goal now is to operationalize the strategic imperatives—to move the institution forward in accordance with The L&C Advantage. The next phase of planning is being taken up by a new Strategic Imperatives Advisory Council, composed of faculty and staff. You can find my full charge and the composition of the SIAC on the website.

I have charged the council with using the Big Ideas as a resource to help us refine and clarify the most promising elements of those 28 proposals. The council is currently reviewing the Big Idea submissions and will be in touch with those who submitted proposals to provide feedback, ask questions, and suggest other next steps as appropriate. The council might also seek additional proposals in areas where a need is identified.

The SIAC has already begun meeting and will continue its work throughout the academic year. Members will regularly update their deans or vice presidents on recommendations and the work of the committee and will communicate regularly with the full campus community as the process continues. Their efforts will allow us to give an update on the Big Ideas process and status at the February meeting of the Board of Trustees and to deliver a final report before May.

As I’ve said before, what we’re doing is iterative and dynamic planning, so if you have additional feedback, please contact us by reaching out to your Executive Council representative and/or email strategicplan@lclark.edu.

Sincerely,

Robin H. Holmes-Sullivan

President
