Middle East Energy Industry Association (MESIA) awarded Lewis & Clark Law School alum Tania Jarjur ’11, General Counsel of Yellow Door Energy, with their “Woman in Solar of the Year” at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The MESIA Solar Awards recognize and celebrate exceptional talent and achievements in the Middle East and North Africa solar markets and are one of the energy industry’s longest standing awards ceremonies in the region.

Receiving the award, Tania Jarjur said, “Thank you MESIA and the judges for the Woman in Solar of the Year award. I am honored and humbled by the recognition. In January 2017, I joined Yellow Door Energy as its first in-house counsel, driven by a passion for a cleaner, more sustainable world. As a legal professional, I am cognizant of the challenges our industry faces to address climate change and gender diversity. I am also excited about the opportunities ahead and firmly believe that together, we can advance the sustainable energy transition.”

According to one article, “[t]he judges were impressed by Jarjur’s considerable contributions to the solar industry, namely negotiations of $150 million in funding and over 100 megawatts in contracts to bring solar to businesses in the region.” In addition, the judges were also impressed with Jarjur’s development of a world-class legal department and her efforts to mentor and empower women in the workplace. Yellow Door Energy was founded in 2015 in the UAE and Jordan with the aim of providing sustainable energy solutions for commercial and industrial businesses.

Tania Jarjur has always been a citizen of the world. She grew up in Abu Dhabi and moved to the U.S. for college, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from Duquesne University in 2007 and her JD from Lewis & Clark in 2011. During her time in both institutions, Tania studied and worked abroad in Washington D.C., France, Turkey, and the Netherlands. After law school, Tania was admitted to the Washington, D.C. bar and has since worked in UAE and Dubai.
