Lawrence Pittman (’18)
Lawrence Pittman is a Trial Attorney in the Natural Resources Section of the Department of Justice (DOJ) – Environment & Natural Resources Division, in Washington, D.C. As a Trial Attorney for the DOJ, Lawrence represents federal agencies in federal district court in litigation concerning novel and complex issues arising under natural resource, environmental, and cultural resource statutes. Prior to the DOJ, Lawrence was at the Environmental Protection Agency - Region 6 (Dallas, TX) as an Assistant Regional Counsel, working in the Office of Regional Counsel - RCRA & Toxics Enforcement Branch.
A native of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Lawrence attended Lewis & Clark Law School from 2015 - 2018. While at Lewis & Clark Law School, Lawrence served as the Student Bar Association President, the American Bar Association Student Representative, and the Black Law Student Association Co-President.
Lawrence is currently a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) Environmental Justice Taskforce. Lawrence also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee for ABA – Section of Environment, Energy and Resources (ABA SEER). Lawrence has developed and moderated ABA SEER CLEs, “Analyzing Risk Assessment from Scientific, Legal and Client/Stakeholder Perspective”, published various articles, “Energy Justice: Addressing Energy Burden Inequalities and the Electricity Grid’s Infrastructure Inequities”, “Cumulative risk by any other name: Seeking environmental justice in an era of statutory, regulatory, and scientific uncertainty”, “Underrepresented: Attorneys of Color in Niche Practice Areas”, and helped co-author the updated ABA SEER Environmental Justice Resolution.
Lawrence is a first-generation college graduate and a first-generation attorney. He is passionate about professional development, leadership, community service and mentoring. Lawrence serves as a mentor for the Bridge Builders Program, where he mentors pre-law students, current law students and recent law school graduates. Lawrence also served as a guest lecturer at Spelman College, Emory Law, and Lewis & Clark Law School teaching on RCRA & Hazardous Waste, the Clean Water Act and Renewable Energy and Sustainability. Lawrence enjoys hiking, biking, fishing, running, and anything that requires a bit of adventure.
