In August, Angela Franco Lucero ’03 was appointed to the Multnomah County Circuit Court by Governor Kate Brown ’85. While a student at Lewis & Clark Law School, Lucero demonstrated a profound commitment to creating a more diverse and equitable legal community by tutoring fellow minority law students and serving on the admissions committee. Now, as an alumna, she serves as a mentor to current students and as a volunteer judge for the law school’s mock trial.

“For years, Angela Lucero has passionately served her community, while also maintaining a high-volume civil litigation practice,” Governor Brown said. “Angela’s extensive practice experience, tireless work ethic, and empathy for those who appear before her will serve her well as a trial court judge.”

After graduating with two bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and Spanish from New Mexico State University, Lucero earned a law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School. Since law school, Lucero has represented individuals, insurance companies, and public bodies in a wide range of civil litigation matters. She is currently an attorney at Kranovich & Lucero, LCC, and also serves as a pro tem judge in Clackamas County.

In addition to her legal practice, Lucero is heavily involved in her community and the bar. Lucero has volunteered with Refugee Adjustment Day, DACA Renewal Day, and other access-to-justice efforts in her community. She received the Oregon Hispanic Bar Association’s highest award, the Paul J. De Muniz Professionalism Award, earlier this year.

She has served as president of the Oregon Women Lawyers and currently is on the boards of the Oregon Hispanic Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar Board of Bar Examiners. She is also a member of the Oregon Minority Lawyers Association and the Clackamas County Bar Association.

“I am confident that Angela will assume this appointment with the grace, tenacity, and superior judgment that she has demonstrated throughout her career,” Dean Jennifer Johnson said. “Her devotion to justice and equality is beyond question.”
